Protect Students at Regent University

As it currently stands in Virginia, it is legal to carry tasers for self-defense, however, this is not the case at Regent University. The campus’s current weapons policy prohibits “the possession or use of tasers, stun guns, or electroshock devices by faculty, staff, students, or visitors on campus property.”

This policy limits individuals’ ability to defend themselves against potential threats therefore compromising the safety of everyone within the university’s community. Individuals must have the right to protect themselves in potentially dangerous situations.

The prohibition of tasers and similar self-defense tools not only violates our fundamental right to self-defense but also puts members of the Regent University community at risk of harm.

We urge the Regent University administration, Chancellor Gordon Robertson, and Chief Mitchell to prioritize the safety and well-being of its students, faculty, staff, and visitors by reversing this ban. Individuals must have the means to protect themselves in potentially dangerous situations.
