Eliminate Restrictions on Pepper Spray at Suffolk

In Massachusetts, it is currently legal to carry pepper aerosol sprays.

On campus at Suffolk University there are currently restrictions on carrying pepper spray for self-defense. The Code of Conduct states you must be trained on pepper spray before being allowed to defend yourself

According to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, 1 in every 5 women and 1 in every 16 men are sexually assaulted at college.

Students should be allowed to carry the tools necessary to protect themselves should dangerous situations arise. Hoops to jump through cause people to not carry at all resulting in not having access to pepper spray when they need it.

I hereby petition President Marisa Kelly to amend campus policy and allow the student body at the age of 18 or older to carry pepper aerosol spray for purposes of self-defense.
