On Saturday, April 6, the members of YAL @ San Francisco State University (SFSU) chose charity by donating our time to prepping lunch meals for Glide Memorial Church, located in the Tenderloin district of San Francisco.
We had such an awesome time while volunteering, talking about MTV, Flaming Hot Cheetos, and a pinch of Call of Duty. I, Big Head, learned something interesting: Glide mixes their peanut butter with their jelly to save time. Hubs divulged his secret concoction of peanut butter and honey (so of course now he must kill me). But D-Reem saved the day by breaking a record of most ham sandwiches prepped in an hour. As a matter of fact, we all did our job so well, we were able to cut the time short by finishing all of the prep work early.
All in all, it was a hard day won — and proof that the first steps to a free society is through the efforts of those who dedicate their time to the need of others.
