The House of Representatives voted Saturday for a Democratic health bill that included a public option, and costs trillions of dollars. However, there was one Republican that voted for the bill, and that was Joseph Cao of Louisiana.
As of this writing, mainstream Republicans are outraged that Cao would vote for such a bill because they demanded a no vote. From Fox News:
The only House Republican to vote for Democrats’ health care reform bill Saturday night swiftly defended his decision, no doubt mindful that he could become a pariah of sorts in the Republican Party establishment.
In a written statement issued minutes after the historic passage, Louisiana Rep. Anh “Joseph” Cao said he was standing up for his constituents with his “yes” vote, citing “exploding” health care costs in his district and the need for more accessible care. He noted that he had obtained a commitment from President Obama that day to address health care and other issues in Louisiana.
“I have always said that I would put aside partisan wrangling to do the business of the people. My vote tonight was based on my priority of doing what is best for my constituents,” Cao said.
But why is the mainstream of the Republican Party upset? They feel betrayed some how, but they fail to miss the fact that this is just typical of the people we send to Washington. This is the typical of the Republican Party.
I guarantee you that a lot more Republicans would have voted for this legislation, but between the pressure they are seeing from constituents and the threat to their chances at reelection, they voted no. The representatives in Washington couldn’t care less about you and your livelihood. They vote based on their self interest, and that is exactly what happened with Cao.
The situation with Cao proves many points, and the big one involves the reason he was elected. He took the seat of former Congressman William Jefferson, who was convicted of corruption. There was no time to see who Cao was, and how he would act in Congress. As a result, we’ve gotten someone whose actions will help destroy the power of our dollar and any financial respect we once had in the world.
Republicans shouldn’t be surprised because this is what they usually get. They are lied to day in and day out by Republican politicians. They continue to grow the size of government while telling you back home that we need to shrink it.
America, open your eyes. The two parties are one in the same and will always deliver the same result.Published in
