This last week our Young Americans for Liberty Chapter at UMass Amherst was joined with the UMass College Republicans to welcome 2nd amendment and female empowerment advocate Antonia Okafor to campus. Antonia is a leading advocate for conceal and carry on college campus across the country. Antonia shared her distinct perspective on the advantages of campus carry policies and increased gun ownership in relation to women’s empowerment and personal safety. The combination of Antonia’s incredible backstory and unique perspective made for an extremely interesting evening! After her talk, Antonia opened up the room for questions and all attendees were able to engage with her. Overall, the event was very successful- it ran smoothly, was engaging and informative, and was a great catalyst for discussing gun rights on campus.
This was not only a success in terms of how the event went, but also in terms of our recruiting efforts on campus. Our meeting this week was filled with new, energized, and engaging members who finally heard a pro-liberty argument for guns on the UMass Amherst campus that was so desperately needed. UMass YAL is excited to continue bringing interesting and freedom-minded speakers to campus, especially in the current political climate where libertarian ideas are so often devalued or flat-out ignored.Published in
