YAL at Western Michigan University had our first free speech ball event of the semester! Despite snow, heavy winds, and temperatures that dipped into the negatives, we had a lot of great interactions with students and filled the ball with some gems of free expression. Starting at the flagpoles in the middle of campus at 10am, we were able to constrain the free speech ball in that general area until the wind blew it down a hill and nearly into the path of students. We deflated the ball prematurely at 1pm due to the intense cold, but still were able to collect a few dozen signatures to advocate for student code reform and promote the constitutional right to free speech.
