The University of Pennsylvania YAL chapter (Penn for Liberty), with help from friends at Students for Liberty, hosted a discussion with the fantastic Austin Petersen! Petersen is a “celebritarian” (celebrity libertarian) known as the founder of the media sites The Libertarian Republic and Liberty Viral, the runner-up candidate for the Libertarian nomination for President of the United States, and current candidate for the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate seat in Missouri (which he could not talk about). He talked about free speech, private property, and his philosophical opposition to the “non-aggression principle” (Petersen believes the principle of doing no harm precludes cases of justified preemption).
After around 45 minutes, Petersen opened up for questions, both premade questions by Penn for Liberty and spontaneous ones by audience members. He answered a question about money-as-speech, income inequality, the exact role of government, and the future of the liberty movement. Audience members took selfies with Petersen and helped themselves to YAL swag and free food, leaving quite excited for Penn for Liberty’s next event.
