California State University of Fullerton builds a wall in defense of free speech

CSUF YAL was out in full force for our Free Speech Wall event being held in honor of Constitution Week. The wall was hard to miss. It stood 12 feet long and 5 feet high. Centrally located right in the center of the school quad, even the faculty of the 40,000 student campus stopped by the look. Students passing by were encouraged to think critically on the 1st Amendment and then utilize it by taking a sharpie to the wall.

While some messages were random and hilarious, many other students responded to the recent campus wide smoking ban. It has been highly controversial due to the cost and questionable legality of such a ban.

Hundreds of students stopped to read the wall and many of them had questions about the 1st Amendment and Young Americans for Liberty. We set up a table to accept sign ups and answer questions. Many were encouraged to attend the weekly meeting later that day as well as to join and like the Facebook group. More than 50 sign-ups were received over the course of the event.

With coverage in the campus newspaper and upcoming coverage on the school website, club recognition for YAL is at an all-time high. CSUF YAL is ready for the next big event!
