For the past few weeks YAL at the University of Oregon has been fighting for free speech on campus. We kicked off April 13th on freedom day with the screening of “Can We Take A Joke.” The turnout was awesome and the event gathered a large crowd.
Building off of the screening we have been tabling and petitioning for the administration to look over our speech codes which make UO a red light school according to FIRE.
This petition has shown that we are not the only ones wanting a change, we have gotten nearly 500 signatures to our petition. We hope to carry this momentum forward and get the university to rethink is backwards and restrictive speech codes.
