Celebrating Constitution Day at Newberry College

After three days of politically-themed events geared toward getting students, faculty, and community members civically involved, our Newberry College chapter sponsored a Constitution Day table outside the dining hall from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Constitution Day, officially celebrated on Sept. 17, this year marks the 230th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution. To mark the occasion, our chapter distributed pocket Constitutions/Declarations of Independence to students, faculty, and staff while simultaneously recruiting new members.

We received eight sign-ups, distributed over twenty Constitutions, several in Spanish, along with YAL palm cards and “How to Deal with Police” cards. We also informed students of our upcoming Liberty Supper, scheduled for October.

In other news, the Newberry College Student Government Association recognized our YAL chapter as an official student organization on campus. This status allows us to freely reserve campus facilities for events, request money from student government when necessary, and post advertisements for our group and its events on campus.
