The GOP leaders in question were McCain supporters, but if they are right in expecting a significant change in leadership and direction at both the local and national level, then this would be the time for advocates of liberty (namely, you) to take advantage of such openings and make themselves the obvious choice for that new leadership. And that is why local involvement through efforts like starting a chapter of YAL (hint, hint, nudge, nudge, know what I mean?) or signing up as a precinct leader for Campaign for Liberty is so important now.
