Colgate YAL Incarceration Nation Kick-off: “The House I Live In” screening

House I Live In

Colgate YAL had a film screening of the film “The House I Live In” on Thursday 4/9 to kick off our discussion of Incarceration Nation. The film focuses on the severe effects on minority and underprivileged communities of America’s wasteful (and futile) War on Drugs.

After the film, we also played this clip from John Oliver discussing the unfair overreach of government control in the form of harsh penalties municipal violations, and the effect those penalties can have on the most underprivileged Americans. We discussed how libertarian principles are the true answer to the cyclical culture of over-imprisonment and poverty in the United States.
