Constitution Day at Brescia University

Brescia University celebrated Constitution Day on Monday, September 18. The festivities included a wonderful and informative lecture on Sharia and the Constitution by Naheed Murtaza, a community figure and John Marshall Law School graduate.

Right outside the hall where this lecture was being given Brescia’s YAL Chapter displayed a large signable constitution (or preamble, at least). On two pieces of poster board, the words “We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union….” in large print were posted on the boards. On the blank space below, attendees of the lecture signed their names, ratifying the Constituiton.

Those who solidified their names in history were given a pocket constitution for their troubles. As always, great conversations and eager new sign ups were gained from this event. My chapter even met a new faculty member who had worked on Ron Paul’s 2008 and 2012 Presidential campaigns.

While flooding in the area kept some students in their dorms (and made our constitution run a little bit), many braved the rain to make it to the lecture. The turnout wasn’t bad and neither was our yield. We also started getting the word out about our “Bomb Fire” event going on later this week!
