Constitution Week at Creighton University

Some of the founding members of our chapter got together the Sunday before Constitution Week to build a full-size free speech wall. We picked up our materials from Home Depot and drove at a turtle’s pace (to make sure we didn’t look anything out the back) to one of our houses for all the saw work. Then, after retying all the knots that held our materials in the trunk, we drove to campus. We put together all the supports right behind the student center before putting it together with the supports on the top floor.  Then we left it in Skutt Student Center for a six days with a couple of markers and one question, “What should a government *guarantee* its people?”

Here is my favorite post, which was written by one of Creighton YAL’s newest members!

Freshman Phil Lays It Down

The answers on our wall were written in two languages, five different colors of marker, and included:

  1. Property Rights
  2. A Puppy for Every Floor
  3. Gender Equality
  4. Tuition That Doesn’t Increase Every Year
  5. A Pony-Based Economy
  6. Love
  7. Security
  8. Stability
  9. Ice Cream
  10. Cake
  11. Real Free Press
  12. Economic Freedom
  13. Equal Opportunity
  14. Nothing
  15. Chocolate
  16. Freedom of Religion
  17. Marriage Equality
  18. Representative Government
  19. Right to Twerk
  20. Captain Crunch That Doesn’t Scrape Off the Top of Your Mouth
And much more!  You can see all of our pictures at facebook.com/yalcreighton. Besides the above, you’ll see marriage proposals, testimonials of love, private censorship, and even a few drawings.
