We celebrated Constitution Week with a week of amendment-themed activism!
We kicked off the week with a trip to the local gun range, taking several members of our group. One of our members is an Army veteran and taught our members gun safety and how to shoot. We shot an AR-15 and AK-47, among other weapons, and were proud to celebrate our Second Amendment rights!
On Constitution Day, we tabled with a “Legalize Free Speech” theme and promoted our event for the evening, a presentation by a local defense attorney on knowing your rights when dealing with law enforcement. We had over 30 people attend our meeting (most of them first-time attendees), and the audience was thoroughly engaged in the presentation material!
We wrapped up the week with a free speech wall on campus, which directly defied our university’s stringent and unconstitutional speech codes. It was a phenomenal hit, and we had well over 350 students write on the wall.
While students and faculty members wrote on the wall, we handed out pocket Constitutions and spoke about the importance of the freedom of speech to a free society. We are looking forward to more large-scale activism events as the semester and school year progress!Published in
