Criminal Justice Reform at the University of South Carolina

The YAL chapter at the University of South Carolina wanted to bring awareness to students on the need for criminal justice reform. We wanted to inform students on the problems with the war on drugs and the effects it has on minority groups. Often times, because of mandatory minimums that are in place people are sent to jail for a very long time for victim-less crimes.

Many students appreciated the statistic we used and it helped change peoples perspective. We also had a fundraiser where we sold brownies out of a pot. The event was a huge success. So many students were supportive of our cause and wanted to help in anyway they could. Many students stopped to take pictures and learn more about our organization.

Next semester we plan to keep the discussion going about the detrimental effects of the war on drugs throughout the U.S.
