Damon Root at the Antonin Scalia Law School

On April 20th, the Young Americans for Liberty chapter at the Antonin Scalia Law School hosted Damon Root, senior editor at Reason Magazine, as a speaker. Mr. Root discussed the US Supreme Court with our chapter, and covered such topics as the threat judicial deference to the political branches of government poses to liberty and individual rights, constitutional originalism as a structural method for defending liberty, the late Justice Antonin Scalia’s judicial philosophy, Neil Gorsuch’s recent nomination and appointment to the Supreme Court, and the future of the Court in the coming years.

Mr. Root also took the time to answer questions about various topics after his talk, including more in-depth examinations of Antonin Scalia’s and Neil Gorsuch’s judicial philosophies and his thoughts on Donald Trump’s and Gary Johnson’s Supreme Court lists.

We wish to thank Mr. Root for coming to talk to us, and for making the event such a success. His talk was absolutely fantastic, and we’re extremely grateful for the opportunity to hear his thoughts.
