Last week Marquette’s YAL Chapter took on the Fight for Free Speech by rolling around a free speech ball. This kicked off our group’s campaign to reform free speech policy on campus. This campaign was inspired by the fact that Marquette has a red light rating from FIRE and was featured on their “Top Ten Worst Schools for Free Speech” list in 2016.
The ball was a hit. It did start out a little slow, though, because inflating the ball took longer than we expected. Once the activism got “rolling” students were very receptive. At one point it attracted a crowd of dozens. The true measure of success, however, was that we were able to get several new students to come to our follow up meeting. We’ll be continuing our campaign this week with a clip boarding session.Published in
