Fighting Childhood Obesity

Our generation has had unprecedented access to pretty much whatever we’ve wanted, so it’s not too suprising that many of us are obese.  The First Lady has decided to use her position to promote weight loss and persuade corporations to offer healthier food options.

While I appreciate her good intentions, I have a suggestion for Mrs. Obama and those of her ilk:  Encourage your own children and children you know to play outside and experience what used to be normal parts of childhood, like grass stains, scraped knees, cuts, bruises and more.  This kind of personal, community-based effort to decrease obesity is more likely to be effective — and less likely to expand government’s control over our personal lives.
