This was the start of an exciting semester! We kicked it off with a table at IUPUI’s Student Involvement Expo, on both days (September 1 – 2).
We were pleased to see so many students–well, involved! There were so many students that, when the Involvement Expo was done (it closed down an hour early due to inclement weather!) we collected 108 signatures!
President of YAL @ IUPUI hard at work
We handed out many pocket constitutions and other literature and a lot students signed up to hear about future YAL events. Our most popular book handout was the pocket Constitutions. In addition to that, we handed out other stuff, like buttons, bottle openers, and candy.
Two weeks later, we had our first event: a discussion on the role of government in marriage. Unfortunately, the primary mode of contact was an e-mail from the group account, and the president didn’t have access to the Facebook page (for reasons unknown), and as a consequence, not many people showed up. On the bright side, there was a fluid, in-depth conversation in the Cube (the normal headquarters for student organizations). One of the members was not only the life of the conversation, but was also handed, and accepted, a role for our group!
