After a well-earned break over Christmas, we YALers at New Mexico State University were ready to hit the ground running with our Spring event: Free Markets 101.
Once I opened the two boxes, one with Jenganomics and the other with Rags to Riches, I already knew we were in for a fun time. Even as we were setting up people started to wander over to ask why we were building a tower of bricks, and it was super easy to interest passersby.
The Jenga-nomics was by far our best success. Over 100 students stopped to take a piece out of the tower, and many of then stuck around so we could chat about the economic message it was portraying. At one point, during a lull, Luke and Austin teamed up with two girls and were able to beat the entire game. We didn’t even know that was possible!
At the end of the day, we were all beat. We talked to over 250 students as they walked past our table, and were able to get over 40 new sign ups. Later that week, we had a great meeting at our local pub as we prepared for our journey to the Texas State Convention, but you’ll have to check out our next post to hear more about that!
