On November 9th, the Leadership Institute’s very own Nathan Berning and I took on Ypsilanti to bring Free Speech to Eastern Michigan University. We brought a large free speech ball while the sun brought just enough warmth to make this late-November day in Michigan enjoyable.
We camped right outside EMU’s Student Center, and the free speech ball quickly became a hit. We had the luxury of meeting students with completely different backgrounds and perspective, but most/all the students that came-by to talk with us understood the importance of ensuring that basic,1st amendment rights should be protected on-campus. So much so, that we received over 240 sign-ups for our free speech petition.
Not only were the students excited about free speech and a large ball to write on, but there were plenty of students who believed in economic and social freedom for all. Which is why Eastern Michigan University is the state’s newest YAL Chapter, thanks to the chapter’s newest leader – Dana Leciejewski!
Cheers to Liberty, and cheers to Ypsilanti!
