Well, folks, we finally did it! After having to postpone our free speech ball event a couple of times because of weather, last week we finally saw some beautiful North Carolina weather perfect for promoting the right to freedom of speech.
It was a wonderful event. Upperclassmen smiled when they saw the ball, its Sharpie tattoos glinting in the sunlight as they walked over to leave their mark. First years looked quizzically at it, trying to figure out what it is before smiling and writing their own comments of the day.
Luckily for us, the day went off without a hitch. Students loved the idea of the free speech ball and professors smiled on as they watched students exercise their rights in between classes.
It’s always a great day to be a Tar Heel, but it’s a particularly great one when we get to see the bonds we form with students over a common interest in protecting civil liberties on campus.Published in
