Today, Temple’s YAL chapter held our first free speech event of the semester! Temple is a public university, yet we need to reserve spots inside and outside to hold events. Of course, we refused to do that. Surprisingly, no one from the administration stopped us. The free speech ball was a huge success, people would come over to us before we even had the chance to ask them to. We got a lot of interesting comments on the ball, some pertaining to politics, some encouraging messages, and some Instagram handles. By the end of the event, the surface of the ball was completely covered. We were so excited to see a lot of people supported our right to free speech. For example, one student said she loved the event because it was a non-violent, non-confrontational way to open discussion.
