Free Speech Ball at University of Texas at San Antonio

On Tuesday, February 13th, The YAL chapter hosted a free speech ball that was rolled around the busiest areas of our campus. The ball caught many students by surprise and many were happy to join in. The opportunity to express oneself freely empowered many to share anything from bible verses to controversial jokes. When the ball stopped in one area for a long period of time, many students engaged in civil discussion over what was written such as topics on religion and politics. Our classmates seemed on board with the notion that all opinions, whether they are Christian, atheist, liberal, conservative or libertarian are protected by the first amendment. Luckily, our campus does not restrict our right to free speech so our event served as a reminder of how important our First Amendment rights really are.
