Our new Young Americans for Liberty chapter at Calvin College held our first event on campus on Tuesday, January 16th. Though planning on a free speech ball, the freezing cold and wet snow led us inside the student cafe to set up a free speech wall.
To become a recognized student organization at Calvin, we need a minimum of seventeen members. We received well over that number of sign ups, and a new dues paying member. We engaged in great conversations with many students, and our board was filled with some gems of free speech and expression. Many students were already interested in conservative and libertarian principles and were excited to see an organization like ourselves was being created on campus. We’re hoping our chapter will be recognized by the university by the end of the month, and that many of the students we spoke to today will get involved in growing YAL and making liberty win at Calvin!
