On September 20th, the Arkansas Tech YAL chapter came together to protest the unconstitutional speech codes on campus. We had petitions, a free speech ball, and a great group of YAL leaders to help us spread the word to students. During the event, we were approached by an officer. The officer proceeded to tell me that the school codes trump the constitution and that we could not continue our event outside of the “free speech zone.” We were able to catch the officer on video.
During the event, we found that most students were unaware of the restrictive speech codes. I was very happy to find that 100+ students at ATU support the Chicago Principles. We still have plenty of work to do on the Arkansas Tech campus, but this was a huge step for liberty!Published in
