This semester has already been an up and down year for starting a YAL chapter at Fresno State. While we were unable to table at the campus club day because we are a brand new organization, we held our first event of the year this past Friday. A Free Speech Ball.
This event was a tremendous success for the chapter as we were able to get over 100 signups and close to 70 signatures for a petition supporting the Chicago Principles. As my first event as chapter president, I can happily say that the event has further encouraged me to keep fighting for liberty on my campus.
I had a number of really fascinating conversations with other students, including one very opinionated woman on the topic of Charlottesville and free speech. Even though the club currently has just one member, I received a ton of help from the regional chair, Isaac Edikauskas, and we were able to #MakeLibertyWin on campus. We nearly emptied our table of all the informational materials and handed out about a hundred constitutions! To any chapter presidents looking to build a club from the ground up, it can be daunting, but we have a good product, and this past week has proven that our generation unequivocally supports liberty; we just need to bring it to them.
Again, I want to thank Isaac and Alex Staudt for helping me with the planning and sending me the materials to have such a successful event.Published in
