On April 5th, YAL members decided to give students of Ohlone College of Fremont a taste of liberty. This first event of the semester was to promote free speech on campus. The members came up with the idea of a modified version of the free speech wall called the “Freedom Scroll”. It was a way for students to express themselves and also to engage in the “Free Speech Challenge.”
All students were offered candy but their portion was doubled if they said a politically incorrect statement out loud instead of writing it down on the scroll. By surprise an international student from Ukraine even stopped by to participate in the event while telling us the horrors of her country’s political and economic system.
Overall it was a great success for our first event this semester. It was a great turn out and we got many new signups as a result. We look forward to having more events on campus and spreading the message of liberty.
