Free Speech Wall Drives Recruitment Efforts at Middle Tennessee State

On Constitution Day, our newly re-organized YAL chapter at Middle Tennessee State University held our Free Speech Wall on campus. Vice President KJ Herr built the wall using plywood and lumber and set it up on the busiest area of campus, called the Knoll. Hundreds of Blue Raiders participated, and countless thousands more observed the students’ open expression of their First Amendment rights.

Students that participated were invited to our first meeting later that night. In all, seventeen showed up (all have attended subsequent meetings) and many more expressed interest in helping out with future events or attending meetings.

Thanks to the Free Speech Wall, MTSU now has the highest amount of active members in the chapter’s history, and we look forward to leveraging that into even bigger events throughout the year!
