Not even the weather can stop freedom. On Thursday, August 31st, the free speech ball was rolled around University at Buffalo’s North Campus against unusually fast and cold winds for summer. Over a dozen students signed a petition affirming the Chicago Principles for protecting free speech on university campuses. Dozens more showed their support for free speech by writing on the free speech ball, from signatures to slogans to social media handles and more. Other than a private heckler, the event was not challenged by university authorities, showing that the free speech zones on campus are not actively enforced at UB.
