It seems like more of this keeps surfacing: libertarians scorning mainstream conservatives and Republicans for never criticizing Bush the way they now criticize Obama.
Although doing so is satisfying for the ideologically pure, I fear that it is also destructive and tends to alienate people from the liberty movement. If we keep treating allies — even temporary ones — which such contempt, our movement will be short-lived. Ron Paul, one might recall, was willing to make common cause with Ralph Nader, Cynthia McKinney, and Bob Barr during the last election, even though all three of them disagree with Paul on fundamental issues. I hope that we can do the same; no one likes a braggart after all.Published in
