It’s Time to Bring the Troops Home

President Obama, who labeled himself as the anti-war candidate, has failed on his promises to end the wars in the Middle East and instead has escalated the war in Afghanistan while the Taliban to regroups in the mountains of the Af-Pak border.

It now appears the troops are fed up with fighting and are losing heart in the mission. From the UK Times:

American soldiers serving in Afghanistan are depressed and deeply disillusioned, according to the chaplains of two US battalions that have spent nine months on the front line in the war against the Taleban.

Many feel that they are risking their lives — and that colleagues have died — for a futile mission and an Afghan population that does nothing to help them, the chaplains told The Times in their makeshift chapel on this fortress-like base in a dusty, brown valley southwest of Kabul.

“The many soldiers who come to see us have a sense of futility and anger about being here. They are really in a state of depression and despair and just want to get back to their families,” said Captain Jeff Masengale, of the 10th Mountain Division’s 2-87 Infantry Battalion.

“They feel they are risking their lives for progress that’s hard to discern,” said Captain Sam Rico, of the Division’s 4-25 Field Artillery Battalion. “They are tired, strained, confused and just want to get through.” The chaplains said that they were speaking out because the men could not.

First, it is not conceding defeat to bring the troops home. Obama is trying to prop himself up as a war President, probably in an attempt to attack Iran.

The troops are tired.  They are tired of being the policemen of the world and it is time for them to come home to their families and protect our borders.

Most of these troops have been through multiple tours in Iraq, and now they are engaged in Afghanistan. Their morale is down for good reason, but the politicians in Washington could care less. They would rather flex their muscles to show they have the balls to fight war. The patriotic thing to do would be declare victory and come home.  We need to stop causing more messes in a region that hates us anyway; all we are doing it stirring up the hornets nest.

Respect the Constitution and let’s end our empire overseas and become prosperous at home.
