Keep Fighting

I talked to a man named Howard Hanson on the phone on Wednesday.  After the call, I couldn’t help but laugh a little, because everything he talked about doing seemed like such a waste of time. This man has been defending the Native Americans of Northern Minnesota for over 30 years and he has little to nothing to show for it. That’s when it hit me.

Howard has spent over 30 years being a voice for those that have no voice. He doesn’t get discouraged every time the politician shuts him out, which from talking to him sounds like it happens pretty often. I’ve been told multiple times about politics that you’ll go into it being idealistic but sooner or later you’ll be broken down and become a hack. Howard is the antithesis of this idea. He’s over 70 years old and even though he’s always been met with disappointment, I could still hear the passion in his voice. It’s never been about self promotion for Howard. It’s been about human rights and standing in the defense of liberty.

Here at YAL, we also want justice.  Our fight for liberty doesn’t discriminate. So whenever you get broken down, let people like Howard be an inspiration to you. Remember, the battles worth fighting are never easy.  Our liberty movement is no different.

Keep that flame burning inside you.
