Young Americans for Liberty at Marshall University hosted a Spring Recruitment Drive today, our first event of the Spring semester! We set up our table in the Memorial Student Center around 11:00 am, right before the lunch rush began. We took the time to set out all our materials including pocket Constitutions, leaflets, stickers, buttons, bottle openers, and “How to Deal With the Police” cards (these are popular with fraternities). We also hung up a couple of the limited edition signs that came in our Spring Recruitment Drive kit!
While tabling, we advertised our meeting next week and our upcoming event, the “We Hate PETA Barbecue!” College students love free food, so the promise of free food was a great way to get sign ups. Because of the chilly weather, there weren’t a lot of people out and about, but we managed to get around ten sign ups and they all seemed interested not only in free food, but also the ideas of Liberty! We wrapped up our recruitment effort around 4:00 pm due to dwindling crowds in the student center.
Our goal for the Spring Recruitment Drive was to gain more members to be better capable to carry out more elaborate activism events. While we didn’t get a large number of sign ups, we were able to make connections with many potential members and activists.Published in
