The YAL chapter at New Mexico State University decided to hit Recruitment Drive hard…and we succeeded! We took advantage of every opportunity during our first two weeks of the semester to reach out to students and introduce them to the liberty movement.
We started by tabling outside of our student union building and drew students in with big Jenga and the War on Youth Tabling Kit.
We also had a table set up at the NMSU Activities Fair where we used the World’s Smallest Political Quiz to identify liberty-curious students and tell them about YAL.
We kicked off the first weekend of the semester by hosting a Welcome Barbeque as a way for new sign-ups to meet our returning members. To end the weekend, we conducted a dorm storm in which we taped 840 flyers to every door in all centrally located housing complexes on our campus to promote our first meeting.
Our efforts certainly paid off! We hosted our first meeting: “What is Libertarianism?” and broke our meeting attendance record with a total of 26 students (standing room only!), many of whom were new faces.
Through this recruitment drive, we successfully gathered 75 sign-ups and several new members interested in getting more involved through officer positions. With all of our exciting plans for the rest of the semester, we have the opportunity to be not only the dominant voice in campus politics, but also a leading force for liberty in New Mexico!
