Nonsense Economics

Daniel Hannan, a self-described “backbench” Member of the European Parliament representing Southeast England has overnight been catapulted into the public eye through the magic of the Internet.

His short speech, in response to a load of self-aggrandizing drivel from the disgusting Gordon Brown, has today become the most watched video on the British YouTube, and accumulated over 150,000 views in less than 24 hours.  This in spite of a completely apathetic mainstream press.  Take a look for yourself, or read about it on Hannan’s blog:

Hannan’s message is concise, clear and completely rational.  He says what every one of us in the United States and in Britain is thinking at this moment of economic uncertainty.  His response to Gordon Brown’s suggestion that England can simply spend its way out of recession is dead simple:

You know, and we know, and you know that we know that it’s nonsense!

And that’s just what it is.  Nonsense economics.  Anyone can see that running money off a printing press is not going to solve our economic woes.  But having the courage, and the opportunity, to deliver those damning words to one’s head of state is an entirely different matter.  If only President Obama would present himself for a similar justly deserved tongue-lashing.

So here’s to Daniel Hannan, a champion of liberty.
