The American Medical Association today agreed to visit with President Obama to discuss the future of more government intervention within national healthcare, stating that without a good healthcare system the United States will go broke:
“If we do not fix our health care system, America may go the way of GM — paying more, getting less, and going broke.”
Obama urged the AMA to support his plan to allow access to a healthcare insurance policy to the 46 million Americans currently uninsured.
The AMA has historically been skeptical of government intervention to the medical industry, but the President — Nancy Nielson — wrote a short letter in the New York Times last Saturday agreeing that all Americans should be insured, one way or another.
