We held our recruitment drive at the Old Dominion University Fall Organization Fair known as Mainstreet. We were tabling with Generation Opportunity, who provided some swag and also had students take free market surveys for free Starbucks gift cards.
We also had a prize wheel in order to attract people to our table. They would spin the prize wheel and it would either land on Starbucks gift cards or on a slot that read “get caught with 5 ounces of marijuana; go to jail for 10 years,” “NSA reads your emails; go to jail,” etc. We got not only interest in the prize wheel but also in our message. We talked about the philosophy of liberty and found many students interested on campus.
We had 67 students take the surveys, whose information was then forwarded to us a sign-up sheet. For our general meeting we doubled our membership total from our last meeting the semester before. We talked more about YAL over pizza and talked about our upcoming semester.
