Our YAL chapter at Old Dominion University continuously fought for free speech on our campus. We kicked off the year with passing out Constitutions in which we talked to other clubs at the student fair and some new students during orientation. Then, we did a Free Speech Wall one week and then a Free Speech Ball the next week so that we could talk to students about the importance of Free Speech on campus.
Then we brought back a classic Civil Liberties Graveyard. This was the most intriguing because we had students both from the left and the right who were concerned about losing the same rights. It was a great moment to see polarized sides concerned about the same stuff and talking to one another about that.
We ended the year with another Free Speech Ball to summarize a wonderful semester of continued activism.Published in
