“The days of our open ended commitment must come to a close. And the need to bring this war to an end is here.” – Senator Barack Obama, January 30th, 2007.
First, he called for an end to the war in Iraq.
Then, he called for all troops to be out by August 2010, save a few to the tune of 50,000.
Bowing to the Wilsonian tradition and his predecessor George W. Bush, President Obama has decided that building a democratic society in the Middle East is of more pressing importance than American soldiers’ blood, the American taxpayers’ dollar, and the survival of the American republic.
What happened to all of his fiery rhetoric against the war in Iraq? What about the Iraq War De-Escalation Act of 2007, a bill proposed by then Senator Obama that would have brought all troops home by March of 2008? What happened to the good ol’ Peace President?
Was Schlesinger right all along? I guess so. It looks like Obama fell into the imperial presidency.Published in
