The McDaniel College Involvement Fair is an outdoor event that is held at the beginning of each semester to acquaint students to the extracurricular clubs and organizations on campus. Cookout foods such as hamburgers, hot dogs, and grilled chicken are served to all who attend.
The laid-back cookout atmosphere was perfect for conversing about the principles and ideas of liberty and how they should be applied to public policy. The need to change the current political system was discussed and how the Young Americans for Liberty is trying to do so through student activism.
As a newly forming chapter, the involvement fair was crucial for recruitment. There were several people of various backgrounds and political affiliations who asked “What is Young Americans for Liberty?” I informed my curious peers of the chapter’s goals, purpose, and events being planned for the fall. Even though there were some table visitors who only wished the chapter the best of luck, there were many who were interested and signed up.
Overall, tabling at the involvement fair was fun and a great success. It appears that our chapter will have a very strong base of members for the establishment of the chapter. The chapter is close to getting official recognition from the college. I look forward to a full first meeting!
