The YAL chapter at Mississippi State University hosted the 2016 Recruitment Drive on August 19, 2016. Anywhere from 3 to 8 people were helping out at any given time. We were set up in the main quad area of campus.
Unfortunately, the weather in the morning was not cooperative, so many students were not on campus until around 10 AM, two hours after we set up. We did not use any new materials from YAL this time, but we did use a variety of resources from SFL, the Institute for Humane Studies, and FEE, as well as older YAL materials.
We were able to have 30 sign ups by 2 PM. Out of the 30 sign ups, roughly half the people showed up to our meeting later that evening. However, a handful did express this interested but had scheduling conflicts that evening. That means we had a 50% success rate at getting new members to come (or wanting to but having work) to our first meeting.
Normally, we have a 20 to 30 percent success rate, so we are happy with our first turnout. It was a success for liberty! These 12 new members are a great addition to the 13 or so active members we already have.
Overall, this was a successful recruitment drive and we can’t wait to continue our activism on campus.
