Restore the 4th at Ashland University

One of things that I learned this summer as I was required to fly across the country on multiple occasions for my internship was that the belt that held my jeans up was a threat to national security. My belt was *almost* as much of a threat as my shampoo bottles and hair gel, which were taken from me and thrown into a pile of other hazardous materials as if I was trying to smuggle drugs back to Ohio.

All joking aside, most people (even the man or woman taking away my property) know that belts, shampoos, and hair gels are not anymore hazardous then the other items that are allowed in my carry-on luggage. What most people do not know or consider, however; is that the investigation referred to above is against the Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which protects the citizens from “unreasonable searches and seizures.” Last Thursday, we had an enjoyable time discussing this issue with Ashland University students and handing out candy in celebration of YALoween. It is always delightful to hear the opinions of students on campus, and raise awareness to important issues plaguing American society. Be on the lookout for our next event!
