Elizabethtown College YAL scrambled to take advantage of a “spring cleaning sale” organized by class senate at the last minute. Organized as an event for clubs to sell previously unsold merchandise, the spring cleaning sale required a small entrance fee. With little inventory left from our homecoming sale, we decided to utilize the opportunity to table as usual and make a little money too.
We used the opportunity to table with most of our War on Youth kit. While we weren’t able to assemble the banner — which we’ll certainly be using later — we drew people in with our debt pong game. Students were more than willing to pong and discuss YAL with us. We even managed to sell almost all of our remaining stickers.
This is a good example of how YAL chapters can take advantage of other campus events. All the promotion for the event was taken care of for us: flyering, banners, and chalking! While it did cost us $5 to set up, we felt it was worth the expense and the event did more than pay for itself. And of course, we had a great time talking to students and shooting some pong!
