Senate Votes to Give FDA More Power

I am not a fan of smoking, but in a liberty-loving way I have no desire to prevent people from making the decision to smoke in their own perceived self interest.  The AP reports that the Senate just passed a bill which would give the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) extensive power to regulate the tobacco industry.

In brilliant Soviet-style fashion, the powers granted the FDA have passed through the Senate, at least, in what seems to be a bloodless coup. Assuming this law makes it onto the books, the FDA will now have the power to decide and dictate how cigarettes are made and how companies can market their products.
