South Alabama Free Speech: The Ball’s in our Courtyard

Challenging free speech codes at the University of South Alabama hasn’t been easy. Last year, there were several accounts where students had been penalized for expressing themselves outside of “Free Speech Zones.” This year, our chapter did not hesitate to bring attention to our school’s unconstitutional behavior.

We kicked off the Fight for Free Speech Challenge last Wednesday by petitioning in the courtyard of USA. The students were mesmerized by the enormous beach ball we rolled around and encouraged them to sign. Many students admitted they were unaware of restrictions to our free speech on campus, and were impressed by our efforts to spark change. The amount of signatures we received proved the event to be a success! We have another event planned before the month ends, and everyone is enthusiastic about the interest students are showing towards liberty at USA.
