On Tuesday, September 5, my vice president and I, carried out our first speech ball of the year. The weather was quite well, as the sun did not start bearing down on us until later in the day. My vice president, Connor Johnson, and I, met at the coffee shop on campus, where we inflated the ball with a hand pump. Before we even got to the fountain, we had people rushing up to write on it!
The day went very well for us. A new member of our YAL chapter, Noah Moore, whom we met at a College Republicans meeting, was also there to help us, and provided very much help. I would like to thank both Connor and Noah for helping me carry out the event.
As the hours passed, we obtained many writings on the ball, as well as many signatures on the free speech petition. Some of the participants enjoyed talking about anything and everything, while some just simply wrote on the ball and went about their merry way. Nonetheless, by the time we deflated the ball, it was practically covered in speech. We even had a faculty member who approached and said he appreciated what we were doing. It’s always nice hearing words of encouragement from our campus staff! We will definitely be doing more events this year, and we will be doing another speech ball before the semester is out.Published in
