Spreading Liberty at Butler

The Young Americans for Liberty chapter at Butler University had an extremely successful Recruitment Drive. Last Tuesday, August 23rd, Butler hosted its annual Block Party, where all student organizations set up tables on the mall in the middle of campus. At this Recruitment Drive, the chapter received 70 sign-ups from students of all academic years. Many students assumed that we were a typical political organization that was focused on certain candidates or campaigns. Once our officer team told them that this was more of an issues-based organization, interest seemed to grow and the number of sign-ups increased. Many Butler students were also excited about the free speech ball event we plan on putting on in September.

The Butler chapter just received official student organization status from the university in April. This semester is going to be devoted to improving chapter membership and establishing the chapter on Butler’s campus. Like on many other college campuses, there are a multitude of students that are feeling as though they should turn away from politics because of the nasty presidential campaign that is currently being broadcast around the nation. In the coming months, YAL will fill that void that these students feel, and get them interested and engaged in liberty issues.
