St. Olaf College has one of the lowest FIRE free speech ratings in the state. Just this year, free speech has been thrust into the spotlight by student activists warning campus against free expression. So the time was ripe for our chapter to host a screening of “Can We Take a Joke?”
Having tabled the day before, we had a few good discussions with some students about the film. Although there wasn’t as big of a crowd as we had hoped for those who did come shared diverse perspectives in engaging in conversation.
We opened the doors to people of different ideologies, and it showed them just how welcoming liberty-lovers can be. In that sense, our event was a success.
